Mapbox Vector Tile Format

Vector tiles are how we store geographic data for rendering on the web or mobile devices. A collection of vector tiles. Every time you upload your data to mapbox it is converted into a tileset;

Vector tiles are used to create mapbox vector tilesets. It's designed to allow you to package up many files into a single tileset. Vector tiles encode geographic information according to the vector.

This file is saved as featurefile.geojson on my local machine.

Vector tiles are encoded as google protobufs (pbf), which allow for serializing structured data. When a raster data file (like an image) is uploaded to mapbox, it becomes a set of tiled pngs. Once the layer you want to convert is setup, you can open up the toolbox by either selecting the gear icon or by going into the processing tab on the menu bar and selecting toolbox. Vector tiles rethink web maps from the ground up, providing a single efficient format to power raster tiles, interactive features, geojson streams, mobile renderers, and much more.
